FtsZ is the first cytoskeletal protein discovered in prokaryotes and it plays an essential role in prokaryotic cell division.During the process,FtsZ self-assemble into filaments and further form a ring-like structure(Z-ring) in the middle of the cell to generate constrictive force to facilitate the division.Without any known motor proteins,the mechanism of the constrictive force generation during the division is really enchanting and has yet to be discovered.
