The Tian Shan is an east-west trending 2500-km-long tectonically active mountain range in central Asia where several large earthquakes (Mw>8) have been experienced during the past centuries. It was formed in late Paleozoic, and a few intermountain basins appeared in Mesozoic. It rejuvenated again in the Cenozoic under the influence of the ongoing India-Asia collision, many active structures can be found in Tian Shan.Active tectonics took actions during last ten thousands yeas, and surface traces of fault scarps, detached gullies and folds in alluvial deposit are apparent,so it is easy to distinguish them from other geological phenomena. We studied active tectonics of in the northern and southern piedmont basins as well as intermountain basins of the Tian Shan based on interpretation of remote sensing images as well as the field investigations. The geometry, geomorphology, and kinematics of active deformations are analysed.
