Healing Space Research in High-density Built Environmenta Salutogenic Approach for Health Promotion

  After World War Ⅱ,the study of human health has been shifted from "the status of absence of disease" to "complete physical,mental and social well-being".The transition has raised a new theory Salutogenesis which indicates health could be promoted by creating supportive/healthy environments.In this research,the author regards healing space in high-density built environment could achieve health promotion through Salutogenic approach.There are three main research trends in literature reviews: firstly,the perspective of healthy urban environment;secondly,the perspective of healthy people ;and finally,integrated urban sustainability with human health.According to previous studies,the authors found the connection of ecological resource/system and healing therapy from nature power embedded into design and construction practice,which will remodel the built environment with organic,vivid,living space for healing and recreation.21 indicators for healing space assessment have been summarized by previous research,and the authors have selected the KhooTeckPuat Hospital as a case study to analyze the healing space design and management.The case study is used to understand and analyze the significant of the indicators.
