Aortic stenosis (AS) is a common valvular abnormality. It is increasing in frequency with an aging population.Surgical aortic valve replacement is the standard of care for symptomatic severe AS.In high-risk or inoperable patients, the surgical option is often excluded.Percutaneous valve implantation recently emerged as an alternative for these patients. This field is evolving rapidly, with 2 devices being used in clinical trials. There are several more with first-in-man results and others in pre-clinical development.Treatment of AS will evolve as these new technologies improve.Enhancement of device designs will increase procedural safety and allow application to a wider population.
