Aims: To investigate the effect of electric field on integrinβ1 signaling and the induction of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in human lens epithelial cells (HLE-B).Methods: Cultured HLE-B cells were exposed to an EF at 100mV/mm for 6h, 12h and 24h.Cell morphology was observed under an inverted microscope.The expression of E-cadherin, Vimentin and integrinβ1was examined by immunofluorescence.The mRNA levels of E-cadherin, Vimentin and integrinβ1 expression were evaluated with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).The protein levels of E-cadherin,Vimentin, integrinβ1 and phosphorylated focal adhesion kinase (pFAK) expression were examined with Western blot.Experiments were performed in the presence or absence of anti-integrinβ1 antibody and anti-FAK antibody.
