Calcium-activated Chloride Channels (CaCCs), TMEM16A, control diverse functions in nociception, neuronal excitability, muscle contraction and epithelial chloride ion secretion.CaCCs may represent many drug targets for the treatment of various human diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, hypertension, asthma, gastrointestinal motility disorder. In the past 4 years, since TMEM16A was identified at least as a major component of CaCCs, several activators (Eact, Fact) and inhibitor (T16Ainh-A01,CaCCinh-A01, tannic acid and eugenol from natural products) have been reported to regulate TMEM16A in different tissues and organisms.
