前蛋白转化酶枯草溶菌素9 (proprotein convertase,subtilisin/kexin type 9,PCSK9),于2003年被加拿大学者Seidah在研究神经细胞凋亡时发现, 属于目前发现的哺乳动物前蛋白转化酶家族9大成员之一.就在PCSK9被发现的同一年,Abifadel及其同事首先报道了PCSK9基因的突变造成的家族性高胆固醇血症,由此拉开了PCSK9与胆固醇代谢研究的序幕.PCSK9对胆固醇的主要调节作用在于促进低密度脂蛋白受体(low density lipoprotein receptor, LDLR)的降解使得LDLR的数目减少,进而打破LDLR的循环使循环中低密度脂蛋白胆固醇(low density lipoprotein cholesterol, LDL-C)升高.
