　　Blood volume and cardiac output rise during normal pregnancy, reaching a peak during the late second trimester, so preexisting cardiac lesions should be evaluated with respect to the risk they impart during the stress of pregnancy.On the other hand, cardiac diseases complicate 1% to 4% of pregnancies in women without preexisting cardiac abnormalities.
