A polyphasic taxonomic study was performed on two bacteria of the Bacillus pumilus group, designated as strain DW5-4T and R06B32 isolated from aquaculture water of shrimp farm of Zhangzhou city in China and sediment of the Arctic Ocean, respectively.Two strains were determined to be Gram-positive, oxidase and catalase positive, rod-shaped and motile.Two isolates were able to hydrolyze aesculin and gelatin, but were unable to reduce nitrate to nitrite.They can grow at 8-45℃ , at pH 6-11 and in 0-12% (w/v) NaCl.
