A Gram-reaction-negative, seawater dependent, non-spore-forming, yellow, motile, rod-shaped strain, designated Ma-11T, was isolated fiom the culture broth of a Chlorophyta and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study.Strain Ma-11T could grow at 20-45 ℃ and pH 8-9 in the presence of 0-3% (w/v) NaC1, and grew optimally at 3 7 ℃, pH 8.2, in natural seawater medium.Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain Ma-11 T formed a distinct evolutionary lineage within Gammaproteobacteria and was most closely related to chemolithoautotrophic bacteria (Thioflavicoccus, Thioprofundum, Thiohalospira, Thiohalomonas, dlkalispirillum, Thioalkalivibrio, and so on.88.51-90.92% similarity), however, the growth of Ma-11T was not thiosulfate dependent.
