Silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were successfully synthesized into the lamellar space layer of organic rectorite (OREC) and rectorite (REC) via the modified Tollens reaction.[Ag(NH3)2]OH, OREC (REC), and quatemized carboxymethyl chitosan (QCMC) were used as the silver precursor, the solid support, and the chemical reduction agent as well as the natural polymeric stabilizer, respectively. The aqueous [Ag(NH3h]OH/QCMC mixture were dropped wisely into OREC (REC) suspension under microwave irradiation.OREC (REC) was exfoliated, and Ag NPs were formed on the interlayer and external surface of clay and thus well dispersed in the resultant solution.
