Pterostilbene, a dimethyl ether analog of resveratrol, is a naturally occurring phytoalexin that possesses a variety of pharmacologic activities including antioxidant activity, cancer prevention activity and cytotoxicity to a number of cancer cell lines.Programmed Cell death can result from distinct processes, namely apoptosis (type Ⅰ programmed cell death) and autophagy (type Ⅱ orogrammed cell death).Cancer cells are usually sensitive to apoptotic induction initially but become resistant through deregulation of the apoptosic pathway.
