S alvia cavaleriei Levi is endemic to China and the whole plant of S.cavaleriei is used as a Chinese herbal medicine to treat hematemesis, metrorrhagia, dysentery with bloody stools,and traumatic hemorrhage.Previous phytochemical investigations on S.cavaleriei var.cavaleriei and S.cavaleriei var.simplicifolia have resulted in the isolation of depsides,phenolic glycosides, triterpenoids, and steroids.
