Aim: Metabolic abnormalities were reported in maternal-fetal unit with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR).Here we aimed to investigate the metabolomes in maternal-fetal biofluid of caffeine-induced IUGR and tried to explore maternal biomarkers. Methods: Pregnant rats were orally treated with caffeine (20, 60, and 180 mg/kg) from gestational days (GD) 11 to 20.Metabolome of maternal and fetal plasma on GD20 and maternal plasma on different times (GD11, GD14, and GD17) were analyzed by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance-based metabonomics.
