From the end of the 20th century,with the development of globalization,the international situation has been profoundly changed.Terrorism has become the most intractable threat of the overseas diplomatic premises for most countries.The attacks aimed at Chinese embassies and consulates have been more and more frequently in the past few years.Today,the relationship between each two countries is simultaneously shaped by cooperation and challenges.The form of the overseas diplomatic premises needs to be both looking friendly and safe enough.The security solutions which completely show openness or closeness are old-fashion stories.In new projects,architects are asked to find sophisticated solutions to balance the contradiction between positive images and strict security standard.The cases introduced in this paper do not only lead to the security purples,and they also manifest the evident aesthetic quality.This paper aim at helping the architect to find the adaptive building forms to integrate the security measures into a decent image in four levels: psychological control,visual control,behavior control,and loss control.The four levels,which reflect the architectural interventions on boundary,building envelope,outdoor space,and connections,constitute an integrated and flexible security system:Firstly,psychological control keeps the boundary soft to show openness,and deters the terrorists from planning and implementing attacks in four respects : (1) strengthened transparent boundary (2) movable cars and visitors control system (3) boundary integrated in landscape (4) high intensity illumination.Secondly,visual control disturbs the visual judgment of the criminals,while the facade has more opportunities to shape positive images.It has four respects : (1) independent building envelope (2) low identity structure (3) low risk functions with higher identity (4) multiple-defenses elevation elements.Thirdly,behavior control not only introduces a linear roam space for events and activities,but also arranges the authority,path and behavioral of the criminals in four aspects : (1) curved road system (2)strict sequence of public spaces (3) landscape with access control (4) clear horizon with limited obstructions.Finally,loss control eliminates the possibility of the second damage and chain-effect collapse after the attack,while the cluster of small and detached volumes can also have a friendlier image.It has four aspects : (1) detached volumes (2) connective structures between sections (3) expendable structures with lower-risk functions (4) hidden and separated essential functions.
