The diversity of physiological processes associated to autophagy, such as cellular homeostasis, survival, differentiation, development and immunity led to the emergence of several animal models among which the nematode C.elegans.Our group aims to understand the particular roles for selective autophagy during developmental processes. The formation of the autophagosomes requires the recruitment of ubiquitin-like proteins to their membrane. The yeast ubiquitin-like Atg8 is highly conserved but presents several homologs in mammals, split into the LC3 and the GABARAP families.C.elegans only possesses one GABARAP and one LC3 homolog named LGG-1 and LGG-2, respectively.
