Curcumin is a well-known compound which is an ingredient of turmeric. This yellow pigment has been reported to show various pharmacological activities.Because of its anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer effects, curcumin is expected to be a potential drug for cancer or Alzheimers disease.Quantitative analysis of curcumin and its analogues such as demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin is important for the quality assurance of turmeric products or for monitoring the concentration in blood.Liquid chromatography with UV detection is the most useful and popular technique for those purposes. It is known that curcumin shows keto-enol tautomerism.Interest about curcumin form in solution has arisen because there may be strong relationship between structure and effects on biological system. Some research on tautomers of curcumin has been done by nuclear magnetic resonance study or spectroscopic technique.Computational approach was also tried to prevail stable structure of curcumin.
