We have developed two novel bacterial vaccine vectors for induction of HIV antigen specific humeral and cellular immunity.These vaccine vectors can be utilized alone or in prime boost combination and have the advantage that they are inexpensive and can be given to young children.The first is a recombinant BCG that in contrast to ordinary BCG escapes from the endosome by means of expression of perfringolysin thus increasing its pro-apoptotic ability and subsequent immunogenicity.Systems for chromosomal integration of trans-genes without antibiotic markers have been developed.
