A water-soluble polysaccharide WEP1 purified from Lentinus edodes has been found to mainly consist of glucose with the structure of (1→3)-glucose main chains and (1→6)-glucose side chains (Fig.1).Results showed that WEP1 with a molecular weight of 538.1kDa could exhibit direct cytotoxic activity against H22 and MCF-7 cells in vitro in a dose-dependent manner.
