Al-Zn-Mg alloys are widely used in aircraft and automotive industries for structure components because of exceptionally high specific strength in the fully aged condition.Precipitation sequence for Al-Zn-Mg alloy is generally described as follows: S.S.S.S.→G.P.zone → metastable η→ stable η (MgZn2).When Zn/Mg ration is lower, metastable Tand stable T (Al2Mg3Zn3) precipitate from G.P.zone.It is well known that Cu is the major alloying element for high strength Al-Zn-Mg alloy because Cu forms S (Al2CuMg) phase and θ (CuAl2) phase.In this work, six kinds of Al-Zn-Mg(-Cu) alloys have different Zn/Mg ratio (1/2, 1, and 2) were prepared to investigate the role of Zn/Mg ratio and Cu in aging behavior of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy.
