  Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) is one of the regions in the world,where heavy soil erosion prevails.The consequence of that is a tremendous sediment load of the Yellow River,which flows through the east part of CLP and forms the Jin-Shaan Canyon.It was estimated that approximately 90% of the 1.57× 109t sediment load in the middle reaches of the Yellow River was derived from CLP via its tributaries.Quantitative analysis of erosion status of the middle reaches of the Yellow River is an essential prerequisite of integrated watershed management in CLP.
