Most previous studies on the genesis and evolution of bedforms have focused on aggradational bedforms within cohesionless sediments,with very few investigations that concern either erosive bedform genesis and evolution or bedrock channel abrasion processes.Those studies on cohesive bedforms that do exist have primarily been based upon flume-scale experiments using plaster of Paris as a base material and there have been no systematic investigations on the influence of bed material properties,notably shear strength,on erosive bedform generation and evolution.Field based analysis of sculptured forms within bedrock channels has equally been restricted notably by the slow rate ofbedform development in such environments.
