Polarization mode dispersion(PMD)is one of the main reasons that causes the FM-AM conversion in the PM front end of high power lasers.Because of the instability of PMD in PM fibers,the FM-AM modulation is going to fluctuate in a large range of 4%to 20%.We first studied the effect of PMD of PM fibers and PER of connectors on FM-AM modulation with numerical and analytical models.It is shown that the random phase shifts in PM fibers are the key point for the modulation fluctuation.In this case,an automatically feedback compensator is proposed to suppress the FM-AM conversion which could make the undulation decrease to 2.3%to 8%,over 2 hours.The system is supposed to be a solution for PM fiber chains.
