A Literature Review of Indulgent Consumption and Prospects

  Indulging consumption behavior as a kind of irrational consumption behavior will not only have a negative impact on consumers themselves,but also mislead consumer misdirection of social reproduction.From the consumers own behavior point of view,indulging consumption refers to consumer behavior that sacrifices long-term goals in order to obtain short-term pleasure.From the perspective of the nature of consumer goods,indulging consumption is oriented towards enjoyment and pleasure,and the products consumed may have undesirable function or non-compliance quality,and consumer behavior that largely sacrifices consumer long-term interests.Based on the literature review,this article summarizes the three characteristics of indulgent consumption,hedonic,controllability and self-defense,and it discusses the mechanisms of indulgent consumption from four aspects: consumer personal characteristics,consumer self-control level,consumer self-cognitive adjustment and external factors.Then it aims at the unfavorable consequences which are caused by indulgent consumption points out some suggestions.At the same time,prospects for future research are also prospected.
