Lanostane-type triterpenoids are one of the major classes of secondary metabolites produced by medicinal basidiomycete Inonotus obliquus in its natural habitats. This type of compounds is believed to be one of the principlas of the fungus to inhibit tumor progression, and a promising agent with antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory analgesic activities. In nature, however, I.obliquus grows very slowly, and its sclerotial form is imposible to be a reliable source for these bioactive compounds.
