The heterogeneous multiscale method is a framework for coupling numerical simulations on different scales.It can be used to design and analyze numerical methods for stiff ordinary differential equations with oscillatory solutions.Microscale simulations are applied in subsets of the computational domain in order to approximate the averaged dynamical system.
