The prognostic value of CD56 antigen expression in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains Inconclusive.We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the prognostic value of CD56 inpatient with AML.The analysis was carried out based on 32 studies which were identified after searching and screening Medline, Embase,Cochrane Library, and CBM.The main clinical outcomes assessed in this analysis includes overall survival (OS), disease free survival (DFS), complete remission rate (CRR) and relapse rate (RR).Hazard ratio (HR) or odds ratio (OR) with its 95% confidential interval (CI) was used as the effect size estimate.Our analysis results indicate that CD56 overexpression was associated with shorter OS (HR =1.83, 95% CI: 1.58-2.12, p < 0.00001) and DFS (HR =2.35, 95% CI: 1.90-2.90, p < 0.00001), decreased CRR (OR =0.66, 95% CI: 0.48-0.91, p =0.01), and increased RR (OR =3.24, 95% CI: 2.24-4.67, p < 0.00001).Additionally, the above prognostic value of CD56 inAML was not influenced by study country, cut-off value for CD56 positivity, sample size, subtype and quality score.So we concluded that CD56 is with prognostic value for patients with AML.CD56 expression should be assessed in AML patients as a useful biomarker for refining stratification and adjusting therapeutic strategy.
