Background:The loci showing the strongest association with fasting plasma glucose in both adults and children are the rs10830963 in the Melatonin Receptor 1B gene (MTNR1B) and the rs560887 in the Glucose-6-Phosphatase 2 gene (G6PC2).However, so far no data showing the relationship between those loci and prediabetes in a pediatric cohort is available. Therefore, in our study we sought to determine 1) whether the MTNR1B rs10830963 and the G6PC2 rs560887 variants might predispose obese youth to IFG; 2) and whether this associations is mediated through alterations in beta cell function examined by the Oral Minimal Model (OMM).
