SiC/SiC composites are the promising materials for flow channel insert and structural material in advanced fusion reactors. In order to obtain large size composite parts, development of joining technology and joining materials is necessary for SiC.The purpose of this work, one of the research series,is to investigate the effect of element addition in 24Ti-76Si(wt%)high temperature eutectic alloy on the microstructure and shear strength of brazed SiC/SiC joints. The results indicated that SiC could be brazed with Ti-Si-Me(Cu,Zr)alloys,and there were not cracks in the joints. The shear strength of SiC joints brazed with Ti-Si-Me(Cu,Zr)alloy increased firstly(amount of Me is lower than 1 wt%)and then decreased with increasing the amount of Zr.Cu reacted with Ti to form Ti-Cu intermetallic compound and dispersed in the brazing alloy. The effect of micro-alloying in brazing alloy on the microstructure and shear strength of the joints will be discussed.
