WF146 protease,a thermophilic subtilase produced by thermophile Bacillus sp.WF 146,has the ability to degrade prpSc-like prion protein at high temperatures,but suffers from autodegradation under reducing conditions.The incorporation of the structural elements of thermostable enzymes into their less-stable counterparts is generally used to improve enzyme stability.However,the process of engineering enzymes with both high stability and high activity remains an important challenge.
