Based on a case study of X rural relocation residential quarter in Yangzhou,the present thesis conducted a comparative analysis of changes in housing pattern and living behaviors occurred in this quarter in the context of rapid urbanization through the methodology of observation and investigation,questionnaire and interviews.The research probed into residentsadaptation to the environmental transition,followed by a summary of characteristic changes in housing pattern and living behaviors after relocation.The findings include: (1) Spatial layout after relocation differs significantly from village houses before relocation (2) Characteristic changes of residentsoutdoor behaviors: area around garage of the relocated residents gradually serve as open courtyard similar in function with previous residential courtyard,signifying uniqueness in environmental behavior (3) Changes in residentsindoor behaviors signify gradual disintegration of traditional living pattern under impact of urban living pattern (4) Lack of small vegetable garden results in increased frequency of visits to fresh food market ;changes in commuting means suggest overall improvement of public infrastructure after relocation;the previous way of neighborhood interaction is affected,and new way of neighborhood interaction is gradually established (5)Little change in residentsfamily structure,occupation and economic status helps to ease maladjustment to the environmental transition (6) Residents express greater satisfaction when comparing their relocated residences to the previous ones,and little satisfaction when comparing to other commercial residential quarter.
