Research on the Regeneration of Abandoned Urban Railways Space Based on Environment-Behavior-a Case

  With the development of Chinas urbanization,those railways which were located in the edge of the city in the old time become one part of the city centre today.Most of the abandoned railways are special lines managed by enterprises that were removed from the city considering the long term urban planning.A lot of land around those rail lines becomes brownfield which impedes the development of the city.How to deal with those railways has been a new challenge now.In this paper,methods of transportation existed are summed up to analyze current situation.Railway,as a witness to the development of Dalian,has experienced the humiliating history of Dalian,but it did affect the social and economic development of Dalian.The situation of abandoned railways in Dalian is not optimistic.Standing on the angle of environment behavior,Software Parks railway crossing is chosen as the subject to investigate.It is not just an abandoned area but also a site where a vibrant small market is forming gradually.The formation of the market is the result of spontaneous activity.The complementary relationship between environment and peoples behavior drove out the desolate feeling of the abandoned space.The case gives us some inspiration.The transformation should be based the precondition of improving the quality of urban life,directed by the sustainable development strategy.Designers should measure the potential value of abandoned railways,taking full consideration of the land status and the citizensbehaviors and propose the optimal solution of the regeneration of abandoned railway space.
