Normal brain development requires thyroid hormone at specific stages.Severe hypothyroidism during neonatal development leads to irreversible impairment in neural differentiationand migration, as well as deficient brain function.COUP-TF 1is a well-characterized repressor of T3-mediated transactivation and expression is essential for normal brain structure and patterning.COUP-TF1 is expressed at a time when the developingbrain is resistant to the action of thyroid hormone.
