Doping foreign species into a host material has been one of the most powerful approaches to alter the basic electronic band structure of an intrinsic semiconductor.Despite of decades of fundamental and applied research, precise dopant control in a wide variety of technologically important systems is still a grant challenge, in particular, tuning the band gaps of a class of metal oxide semiconductors for clean energy applications.
