Objective: Use the established three-dimensional finite element model of temporomandibular joint with anterior disc displacement to explore the effect of the lateral pterygoid muscle on the temporomandibular joint.Methods: According to three-dimensional finite element model of temporomandibular joint with anterior disc displacement, and the force of the pure lateral pterygoid muscle was play on the temporomandibular joint.Results: The overall stress of the temporomandibualr joint was mainly focused on the mandibular angle and the articular disc stress concentration in the middle with the outside areas, the rest of the stress distribution on temporomandibular joint was uniform.The condylar and the articular fossa surface stress just mainly focused on the joint plate of the function of the contact surface.The biggest displacement of the temporomandibular joint was occurred the areas of the superior head of the lateral ptergoid muscle attachment with the joint disc and capsule complex areas.And the disc to the bilaminar region, even the after mandibular attached distribution was not obvious.
