Ophiostoma piceae complex has ascomata with long necks giving rise to masses of sticky ascospores adapted for dispersal by bark beetles.and Pesotum anamorph.During a course of survey on the Ophiostoma species associated with bark beetles infesting Japanese larch, Larix kaempferi in Japan,the isolates (Group A), which was morphologically similar to but did not mate with O.breviusculum, were obtained in Nikko, Tochigi and Kawakami, Nagano prefectures in central Honshu.Furthermore, another group (Group B) of O.piceae complex was obtained in Sugadaira, Nagano prefecture.
