The dry seeds of cultivars Huang C and X178, the parents of Chinese leading hybrid maize cultivars "Nongda 108, were irradiated with 200 Gy Cobalt-60 gamma rays.Direct and indirect methods were used to detect the phytic acid content of seeds of mutants and their wild type parents. The isolated mutants were characterized by basically unchanged total phosphorus content, significantly increased inorganic phosphorus content, and decreased phytic acid phosphorus content compared to those of the wild type. The results showed that six high inorganic phosphorus, low phytic acid (LPA) content mutants were successfully identified.
