Based on the biobehavioral framework of psychoneuroimmunology(PNI),we outline mechanisms underlying health benefits of Tai Chi.The mind-body practices of meditation,mindfulness,and moving meditation appear to have common underlying mechanisms that can positively impact stress-related inflammation and thus,health.Supportive findings from seminal research studies and from our own research programs are highlighted.As we are on the verge of discovering common pathways and mechanisms for various mind-body approaches that involve the effects of mindfulness on stress and immune function,intervention studies need to focus on both underlying mechanisms and specific indicators of the effectiveness of Tai Chi.
