Background and Objectives Gem is expressed in Drosophila embryonic neural precursor cells, directing the differentiation of glial cells.However, Gcml and Gcm2, homologs of Gcm in mammals, are specifically expressed in the placental labyrinth and the parathyroid glands, respectively.Gcm2 and Foxnl gene were alternatively expressed in different areas of the thymus/parathyroid primordium in the third and fourth pharyngeal pouch in the embryonic stage, making cells differentiatewhether to parathyroid or thymus.
