　　St.Johns Wort is used in many countries to treat mild to moderate depression.Although it inhibits the neuronal uptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine like many synthetic anridepressant drugs, it does not bind to the respective transporter molecules.Uptake inhibition is obtained by elevation of the free intracellular sodium concentration which in turn reduces the sodium gradient at the neuronal membrane which acts as driving force for the amine transporters.
