　　Pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polipeptide (PACAP) is an ubiquitous regulator in various multicellular organisms.Two isoforms ate known in the mammalian body (PACAP-38, PACAP-27), the former being the dominant, with numerous functions (e.g.ontogenesis, circadian rhythm, behaviour).Two major types of PACAP receptors have been described (PAC-1, VPAC).Due to alternative splicing, PAC-1 receptor can be further divided into subtypes (short, HIP, HOP1, HOP2, HIPHOP1, HIPHOP2, very short and TM4 variants), which might be coupled to different signaling mechanisms.
