Background and purpose: In this study, we investigated whether adiponectin suppress T helper 17 (Th17) cell differentiation and reduce development and progression of Th17-mediated central nervous system (CNS) inflammation in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model for human multiple sclerosis (MS).Furthermore, we also explored its underlying mechanism of adiponectin on Th17 cell and CNS autoimmune suppression.Experimental approach: The effects of adiponectin on Th17 cell polarization from na(i)ve CD4+ cells in vitro were determined by real-time PCR, multiple cytokines array and flow cytometry.
