Objective To evaluate the effect of saxagliptin (SAX) plus metformin (MET) on β cell function in newly diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).Methods At baseline, 66 newly diagnosed patients with T2DM (M/F: 35/31; mean age: (50± 11) yrs; body mass index(BMI) (27.5 ± 4.6) kg/m2) were randomly assigned to MET (1500 mg/d) plus SAX (5 mg/d)(group A,n=33)or MET(1500 mg/d) monotherapy (group B, n=33).
