Objective: To elucidate the effect of family history on the development of subsequent cancer among kidney cancer survivors. Methods: We employed standardized incidence ratios (SIRs)to estimate the relative risk of subsequent cancer among kidney cancer survivors as well as survivors with family history by using the nationwide Swedish Family-Cancer Database (the worlds largest family-cancer database).A total of 32,132 patients diagnosed with first primary kidney cancer from 1958 to 2008were included. The patients family history of kidney and subsequent cancers was investigated.Interactions between the risk of second cancer and familial risk were tested by fitting the data to additive and multiplicative models. The familial risk of subsequent cancer was calculated for individuals with a family history of a specific cancer and compared with those without a family history of that cancer.
