For route guidance system with Variable Message Sign(VMS),the network configuration in which there are multi-route choices for the bifurcation-destination(or origin-destination)pair is studied. The VMS route recommendation is considered as the routing control variable, and the multi-dimensional VMS control vector is introduced to describe the influence of VMS information on each alternative route.Based on the macroscopic traffic flow model, the routing control strategy is designed in Model Predictive Control(MPC)framework,in order to perform robust to system disturbances and uncertainties. The requirements of system optimality from traffic management and VMS switching performance are considered as the control objectives.Users acceptance with the recommended route is considered by introducing the constraints. The dual-loop solving algorithm based on Tabu-Search(TS)is developed to solve the MPC strategy. The simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed VMS routing strategy for the multi-route network configuration.
