Synopsis We discusses the current status of the Double ElectroStatic Ion Ring ExpEriment (DESIREE) facility: an electrostatic ion-storage device consisting of two storage rings with a common section, where oppositely charged ion beams stored in the two rings are merged. These rings are mounted in a single common vacuum vessel, isolated inside an outer vacuum chamber, and cooled by four cryogenerators. This facility will allow for studies of interactions among ions of opposite charges under well controlled conditions both in terms of internal degrees of freedom and relative velocity. The first results from cryogenic storage of ions will be presented.
