A hydrometallurgical route for the preparation of cobalt oxide from the spent lithium ion batteries using sulfuric acid and oxalic acid was proposed, and metal leaching performance was investigated.The proposed procedure consists of mechanical separation of metal containing particles and a chemical leaching process.The leaching test was investigated at 2 M H2SO4, 6 vol.% H2O2, reaction temperature 60 ℃, agitation speed 300 rpm, solid/liquid ratio 50 g/500 ml, reaction time 1 h.The leaching efficiency of cobalt was more than 99 % and its concentration was 27.4 g/L.An equivalent ratio for the cobalt compound preparation was examined for selective precipitation of cobalt.As the result of product by using XRD, the crystal form of the produced Co oxalate is CoC2O4·H2O.Cobalt oxide also could be produced by calcinations of produced cobalt oxalate.Its crystal form was Co3O4 by XRD.
