The Neutralized Drift Compression Experiment- Ⅱ (NDCX-Ⅱ) is an induction accelerator, designed for beam experiments relevant to heavy ion fusion (HIF) beam physics [1] and target experiments to study warm dense matter (WDM) science [2].The short pulse and high ion intensity necessary for heavy ion fusion and warm dense matter studies can also be used to experimentally create material defects and study the dynamics of how the defects propagate in time [3].As the machine is brought to its design energy of 1.2 MeV,defect dynamic studies can be carried out over a range of energies since defects are created and propagate even at the injection energy (135 keV).
