The choreotrich ciliate tintinnids are key components of microzooplankton as they play a pivotalecological role in transferring pico-and nanoplankton production to higher trophic levels. The studydocuments detailed account of the species composition, abundance and diversity of tintinnids along theGanges River Estuary (GRE),India.A total of 26 species (22 agglomerated and 4 non-agglomerated)belonging to 8 genera has been identified from 8 study sites of diverse environmental stresses of GRE.Tintinnopsis (17 spp) represented the most dominant genera, contributing up to 65% of total tintinnidcommunity followed by Tintinnidium (2 spp),Leprotintinnus (2 spp) and Dadayiella,Favella,Metacylis,Eutintinnus and Helicostomella each with solitary species.
