Tidal flat especially the salt marsh along the coast of the estuary has the most valuable function to the regional ecological security and biodiversity. In the past half century, the sea reclamation in the estuary of Changjang River occupied about 2000 km2 of tidal flat. The authors reviewed the reclamation history and its distribution feature in the estuary of Changjiang River. The large scale reclamation begun in the 1950s and intermittent lasted more than half century. The typical distributions of the reclamation land are along the coasts, and few artificial island built apart from the coast. The reclamation along the coast means the reclamation occupying more tidal flat and the destroyed more salt marsh. So the reclamation along the coast of the estuary of the Changjiang River in the past decades strongly changes the natural environment and influenced the estuary ecological security and biodiversity.
